Dear Knights of 64,

What a year 2021 has been with the pandemic still raging.  Hopefully you are each vaccinated and boosted to protect yourself and others.

Our hearts go out to Boulder County in the aftermath of the Marshall Fires.  How many of you have lost a home?  I hear from Leigh Wailes Smith that Diane Easton's family home burned in the fire.  Hugs to you, Diane.

Let us know if you are unharmed or harmed by the fires?  Go to the Boulder County website to see all the ways you can help our hometown county.

We vividly remember being evacuated for a month last year while fires raged in Larimer County.  We were fortunate our Red Feather Lakes home was spared, but 208,000 acres burned in our forests and homes were lost.  It was the largest fire in Colorado's history. We understand your heartbreak.

I have an update to my post earlier this year. When I saw my now cardiolgist (my first one) Dr David Levine he said tests showed my heart function was 25%. He put me on a heart medicine to try to bring it up but it only went to 3l% by August so he recommended a defibrillator be inplanted.

He told me because "You are a young man you are an excellent candidate for this surgery." He knows how to make me feel good! The surgery was day surgery on Augustt 25. About 4 months later my blood pressure has finally stablizied thanks to an increase in my Losartan by my PCP. It has come down at just the right time because Lynn and my daughter, Mary Helen, plans to attend Criss Cole in Austin beginining January 10 (Our son and daughter by marriage are taking her on the 9th. Also, I was thankful to be able to go caro'ling with our church on December l2 after months of feeling uncomfortable about going because several readings were in the l60's and some in the l70s. Recently they have been in the low l40's and some even in the l20's.

I pray all of you are staying safe from COVID. I know far too many people who have had it. And Diane, I am sorry about your family's home burning.,

We are fine in Boulder--just west of Flatirons golf course. That was an unbelievable wind storm--worse than any I recall, since we moved into this house 29 years ago. Well there was one probably twenty+ years ago that blew over one of the willow trees in our backyard. We had some fence damage, but my husand was able to put up temporary fencing to keep the dog safely in the backyard until the fences can be fixed.

So far, all my friends who live in Louisville are ok, as far as I know. It sounds like they now are thinking it might have been caused by arson. Downed power lines were not responsible after all. Nearly 1000 homes were lost or damaged in the fire. I keep wondering where all those people are going to live while their homes are rebuilt. As I'm sure you all are aware, finding an affordable place to live in Boulder County is practically impossible!

Good Morning all,

I live in Grand Junction far from the awful fires in Boulder County.  I agree with Margie and others, maybe we can set-up a Go Fund Me account to assist those affected by the fires and now cold.  Please count me in!

Dave

Dian Easton (Bredvik)

From Dian Easton Bredvik:   My sister-in-law Jo Easton was home when she saw the Marshall fire coming right at her! She grabbed her laptop, got in the car, and got out in time. She is staying in town with her son. But she has lost everything; well, she's alive, thank God, and she does have what she was wearing and her laptop! The entire South Vale subdivision off South Cherryvale Road was destroyed except for one house and the well pump house. We built that beautiful Roger Easton creatively designed plan in 1958. All of us kids hauled rocks for the end walls up from the pasture with our little red wagon. I am sad. Thank you, those of you who called, texted, or emailed. Thank you for caring.

I've lived just East of Boulder on Valmont Road for 30 years now.  We are about 8 miles from where the fires were.  We've walked the Mesa trailhead and the Davidson Mesa trailhead numerous times always enjoying the views from both.  We were not affected by the fires, but have several friends who have lost everything.  It's hard to imagine.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire community.

Joan & I were out of town during the firestorm, but our house was about

8 miles from the burn center and when we got home we still could smell the

smoke, and blizzard conditions from the airport.  We were very lucky our community

didn't have to evacuate.  We are safe and family are all safe.

Dear Class of 1964,

Iin 2024 it will be sixty (60!!) years since we graduated from Fairview HS in 1964.  Is there a group in the Denver - Boulder area that are willing to gather to plan a reunion in 2024.  I notice we have lost 14 classmates since our last reunion. It needn't be elaborate. Just finding a place to gather for dinner would be enough.  Yet, the reservation needs to be made now.

Please respond to this if you are willing to be on a reunion committee.  Those in the Boulder area might have a connection with a country club or restaurant where we could gather.

Pam Sheets Akison and I continue to keep up this class website at www.Fairview64.com.  You can help by logging into your profile and making sure your information is up-to-date.  If you need help, just ask.  We can help facilitate communication once the committee plans a reunion date.

It's been a while since I said anything here, so here goes...

I practiced consumer bankruptcy law for a few years, and I retired from that when I turned 70 in 2016. I've built a large HO-gauge model railroad on the middle floor of my barn (which I had to build over a 12-foot gap). I've been circuit hacking for a couple of years in aid of the layout.

I've been playing oboe and English Horn going on 25+ years now. Some of you might remember I played baritone at FHS. I got inspired to learn clarinet and saxophone when I played just half of the reed-3 part in a Chorus Line pit 3 years ago. I thought flute might be cool too. Then the pandemic hit, and I took virtual lessons for two years before I ever saw my flute teacher in person.

Then I decided to learn how to use a wood lathe about six months ago. My workpiece flew out and hit my lower lip, causing a severe injury. The scar tissue persists and makes it impossible to form a flute embouchure. I also had all my lower teeth removed due to rampant decay. (Remember to floss!) I'm still recovering from both, and I can't play any of my wind instruments -- except for the Irish whistle flute that I picked up while on vacation in Ireland last month. So I'm reinventing myself as a percussionist; happily, my oboe teacher's partner is a professional percussionist and an inspired teacher.

I ALSO keep my hand in computers by maintaining a large (750K lines) C++ application for creating and filing bankruptcy petitions. After some 15 years, I'm finally porting it to 64-bit Windows.

I wish I had bought the extended warranty on my body when it was offered!

Great idea to have a reunion, Margie.  I probably won't make it from the east coast, but I wanted everyone to know that I have a collection of the Royal Banner newspaper - issues from Oct 1960 to May 1964.  We are downsizing and these are on the way out the door, unless someone would like to have them or there is an archive I can send them to.  Happy to mail them to someone from our class.  Just contact me at bethandpeter@gmail.com.  They are quite a trip down memory lane.

Looks like a fun little gathering in Ridgeway!  I'm sure you were talking FHS64 website business, right?

A 60th reunion informal gathering sounds good!  Wow, that 14 classmates have passed away since the 50th! Good together while we can! God is good!

I just realized the email that was sent to you, cannot be replied too.  Sorry!  Here it is again.

Dear Fairview Class of 1964,

Can you believe that it will be 60 years since our HS graduation in 1964? Plans for our 60th HS reunion are just beginning. Yes, we have made it this far!  89 attended our dinner at Koenig on the CU campus in 2014. We hope for a big turnout again to renew friendships. A big thank you to classmate Mike Fitzgerald who is in contact with the Boulder Country Club about a possible reunion dinner on August 17, 2024. Several siblings have enjoyed their 50th reunions there. More to come.  Questions for you:

1. Are you interested in attending a 60th HS Reunion August 17, 2024?

2. What would you like to have happen at a 60th reunion?

3. Would you be willing to help with the planning of the reunion?  What talent or skill could you share? 4 others have offered to help already.

Pam Akison Sheets (webmaster) and Margie Morris Caswell are the administrators of this website and will halp communicate all that is going on and needed.

We look forward to hearing from you, Knights of 1964.  You can reply on this message forum or email Margie at margiemc214@aol.com

Thank you, Margie for Mike Fitzgerald
