Fred (Dawna) Swenson

Frederick L. Swenson passed away on January 29, 2023 at the age of 76 from cardiac arrest. A native of Colorado, his family lived in Mancos and had to travel to Durango for Fred's birth. His parents, John H. Swenson and Ann-Marie Christofferson Swenson were both educators. Fred graduated from Fairview High School in Boulder in 1964. He received a bachelor and master's degree in Anthropology from the University of Colorado Boulder and graduated with a degree in Law from the CU Law School in 1983. He began his solo law practice the same year. He said he liked the law because "every now and then I get a chance to help someone." But in his younger years he was also a skilled auto mechanic and metal electroplater at Ball Brothers. Fred married Dawna (Bunny) Daldos in 1972. They had 50 years of a great life together with lots of hiking and backpacking, birdwatching, skiing, tennis and squash, fishing, golfing, attending concerts and dancing. Fred had a passion for learning and stayed well informed throughout his life. He was committed to education and social justice. Fred stood up for what he believed in and was a persuasive individual. He was compassionate and kind. Fred developed a special fondness for Southwestern Colorado after living in Gunnison as a child. After moving, the family returned to that area numerous times for fishing and camping trips. Fred is survived by his loving wife Bunny, his siblings John H. Swenson of Lafayette and Sonja Swenson residing in California, his son, Richard, and grandson Amon also reside in Colorado. His nine cousins live in CA, WA, WY, and TX. There will be a Celebration of Life held at a later date. If inclined, please make a donation to one of your favorite charities to honor Fred.
