Obituary
Thomas M Galloway III died on May 5, 2024 surrounded by his beloved family. Tom, who was the kindest of men, as a husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, was born in Midland, Michigan on August 16, 1946. His parents, Jack and Helen Galloway, predeceased him, as well as his two siblings, Fred and Cindy. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara and their children Andrew (Darcie) and Molly Kate, grandsons Kellan Andrew and Nolan Jack, all of Midland. Tom’s sister Mary (Jim) of Boulder, CO and his sister in law, Lynn Galloway of Essexville, as well as many nieces and nephews also survive him.
Tom attended Blessed Sacrament, Northeast and Midland High, graduating from Fairview High School, Boulder, CO. He always remained a loyal Chemic. He then went to the University of Colorado before enlisting in the U.S. Army where he served for two years in Germany. Upon his return, Tom attended Michigan State University where he earned his B.A. and his M.B.A.
Tom married Barbara Cessna on September 12, 1969 in her father’s rose garden. They moved to East Lansing where Tom attended school and worked for 30 years. Barb and Tom raised their family there, living in a college town and enjoying all that it offers. Tom was a devoted Spartan Fan – never missing a football, basketball or hockey game. He was a member of M.S.U.’s Presidents Club and the Alumni Association.
In 1997, Tom and his family moved to Midland where he worked in the mortgage business until his retirement. He enjoyed watching his grandsons thrive, Kellan as an outstanding student and Nolan as a talented basketball player. Tom loved the outdoors and golfing was his favorite activity and making a hole-in-one, a proud moment. He also enjoyed hunting and spending long summer weekends at the family cottage.
Honoring Tom’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. His family will have a private graveside gathering later in the summer. Arrangements are under the care of Wilson MILLER Funeral Home.
Memorials in Tom’s name to AAUW – Midland Branch, P.O. Box 30, Midland, MI 48640, or to a charity of your choice are suggested. AAUW is a non-profit organization that provides scholarships to local women and girls, a mission Barb and Tom supported.
Tom faced overwhelming health challenges, including five cancer diagnosis, with dignity and grace. He was our hero and we console ourselves that he has found peace. At last.
